New View of Building Information Modeling Highlights Sixth Edition of ElectricTV.Net

2008-02-01 | Author: Mark Walston, +1-301-907-7201, markwalston@comcast.net

BIM - Building Information Modeling

BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The visually dynamic new frontier of
Building Information Modeling (BIM) highlights the Sixth Edition of
ElectricTV.net, the only online TV program dedicated to news and information
from the electrical construction and information systems industries.
ElectricTV.net is a joint production of the National Electrical Contractors
Association (NECA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
(IBEW).
Included in the new edition is a look at how the fresh technology of BIM
is dramatically changing the view of building design, construction and
operation. Marise Mikulis, Senior Director at FMI Corporation explains how BIM
enables complete, holistic models of buildings to be dynamically displayed.
"What this does," says Mikulis, "is present a clearer overall picture of the
building and allows stakeholders to make better informed decisions."
Additional segments on this edition of ElectricTV.net include a feature
story on how the new "Team Build" approach powered the construction of a
Chicago-area data center, and a spotlight on a unique educational partnership
between the Fluke Corporation and the National Joint Apprenticeship Training
Committee, "training trainers" in the latest thermal imaging and power quality
technology. As always, the site offers links to articles of interest. Plus,
viewers can subscribe to email alerts announcing the release of new editions.
To view the Sixth Edition, visit www.ElectricTV.net.

Architects Embrace BIM at AIA Convention

2008-05-29 | Author: Heather Livingston

CADALYST

On May 13 and 14, I attended a two-day pre-AIA convention conference in Boston titled "Changing the World: Harnessing BIM Technology and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) for Sustainable Design." While a wordy title, it does give an accurate idea of the scope of the seminar. Technology was at the fore of all discussion and it became clear throughout the conference that, although many architects in attendance were new to BIM, they as a profession are finally ready to fully embrace this practice-revolutionizing technology.
